Palimpsest (pal-imp-sest) noun- Something that has a new layer, aspect, or appearance that builds on its past and allows us to see or perceive parts of this past:

Inspired by the wall of Iran, this work investigates the layering of time and the stories revealed underneath the visible. As the politics change so do the writings and road signs, but below the surface are voices that bleed through and defy all attempts at smothering. Darvish incorporates notions of palimpsest within his own work, by using layers of paint to also reveal the time invested into a single piece and teases out this vibration by exposing its various incarnations.
